Writing Ability Test

The Writing Ability Test (WAT) is a content-valid assessment designed to measure proficiency in spelling, grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure in the English language. These skills are essential for accurate documentation of job-related tasks, including incident reports, daily logs, forms, and other standard written communications required in the fire service.

The WAT is available in two formats: a stand-alone examination for independent use or a short-form version intended for integration with other FPSI selection tools. In both applications, the WAT provides agencies with a valid and reliable method for confirming candidates’ ability to meet the written communication demands of the role.
